I was challenged to demonstrate the entire manufacturing process for a part, from initial project creation all the way through final documentation using the TopSolid 7 platform. So, this series of videos walks you through the completion of that challenge and demonstrates how TopSolid 7, a very robust design and machining platform, allows users to operate at a much higher plane.
After completing this challenge and making the resulting series of videos available to you, I decided to extend the challenge. To that end, we created the Program Your Part Challenge in which I invite you to challenge me with your problem part and/or manufacturing challenges.
In this video, we machine each of our setups. However, we complete this machining by using manufacturing methods. The use of manufacturing methods allows you and your company to accumulate and re-use manufacturing know-how creating ever increasing efficiencies and capabilities.
Specifically, I demonstrate the use of both roughing and finishing methods. Using these pre-created methods, the tooling, tool path, material, speeds, feeds and numerous other bits of manufacturing intelligence can be easily dragged and dropped saving hours upon hours of programming time.
As I complete our side milling, you will notice that TopSolid has created an event notifying us that there is an error. In this case, the error is within our lead in and lead out settings – a very easy problem to solve. Most importantly, TopSolid did its job by notifying us that there is a problem and specifically where the problem lies.
As I move along in completing our machining, you will notice how good TopSolid is at optimizing tool paths without having to fight with the software. In a matter of seconds our drillings and slots are finished, and we have completed machining all of our operations. Watch the video to learn more.
