What is Industry 4.0?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Concept and origin of Industry 4.0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A concept first highlighted at the Industrial Technology Fair in Hanover, Germany, in 2011, Industry 4.0 is a reference to the first three industrial revolutions.<\/p>\n

The first industrial revolution took place in the 18th century after the invention of steam engines, allowing mechanized production. The arrival of the electricity grid led to the rise of the second industrial revolution at the end of the 18th century. Finally, the automation of production in the 20th century led to the third revolution.<\/em><\/p>\n

The idea behind Industry 4.0 is\u00a0to reverse the trend of globalization to the advantage of European industries<\/strong>\u00a0by encouraging factories to acquire the latest technological tools, all connected via the Internet and the Cloud.<\/p>\n

In the new factory, the idea is\u00a0to put the factory at the service of the operator<\/strong>, not the operator at the service of the factory. Since people are the central factor in this plan, every effort is made to improve the ergonomics, productivity and safety of each workstation. As the evolution of production methods has led the operator to carry out more and more procedures, the objective of the ultra-connected factory is to dematerialize all these phases, so that\u00a0people are focused on tasks with high added value.<\/strong>\u00a0To do this, each machine will be connected and communicate with the network, and\u00a0the information will be transversal<\/strong>\u00a0to be distributed between the different departments. Information will be disseminated smoothly and efficiently from the customer\u2019s purchase order, through all stages of the manufacturing process, to the\u00a0shipment of the finished product<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Industry 4.0 components: What are they?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The connected factory, or factory of the future, is\u00a0not going to revolutionize everything.<\/strong>\u00a0It will\u00a0use<\/strong>\u00a0existing equipment,\u00a0improve<\/strong>\u00a0it, and then\u00a0place it at the heart of a network<\/strong>\u00a0where all the information can be\u00a0shared<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For this purpose, certain tools are essential to support the change:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • The\u00a0Internet of Things\u00a0<\/strong>will allow the development of newly manufactured products, therefore opening up new market opportunities.<\/li>\n
  • 3D printing<\/strong>\u00a0opens up new production possibilities, able to adapt to the competitive production of small series.<\/li>\n
  • Collaborative robots (Cobots):<\/strong>\u00a0as operator assistance, the cobot will improve the productivity, safety and efficiency of some workstations.<\/li>\n
  • Augmented reality:\u00a0<\/strong>By juxtaposing information related to certain procedures (notably maintenance) to the individual\u2019s visual field, augmented reality will allow you to rapidly intervene by following the displayed procedures.<\/li>\n
  • Cyber-physical systems (CPS):<\/strong>\u00a0They allow new features to be added to physical elements for the purpose of process control and management. It becomes a key element in the information chain.<\/li>\n
  • Industrial big data:\u00a0<\/strong>The gigantic database of the factory of tomorrow will evolve into \u201cSmart data\u201d with the introduction of artificial intelligence. It will notably improve predictive maintenance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Challenges and perspectives for the factory of the future<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    \u00a0<\/strong>The challenge of the 4.0 factory will be to\u00a0increase productivity while adapting to a new way of consuming<\/strong>. Today\u2019s consumer is buying more and more and tends to focus on customizing objects. So one of the main challenges of the factory of the future will be to combine productivity with\u00a0mass customization and reduced series<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    To do this, it will be necessary\u00a0to facilitate the use of programming software<\/strong>\u00a0to save time, so that the individual\u00a0can use them<\/strong>\u00a0very quickly<\/strong>. One of the objectives will be to process the information in a very short time, while maintaining\u00a0flexibility in the parameters.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The machining of the future will require the implementation of an\u00a0intelligent system, capable of self-assessment and correction.<\/strong>\u00a0The goal of Industry 4.0 is to create\u00a0\u201cintelligent machining\u201d<\/strong>: the collection of know-how and process data, combined with artificial intelligence, for\u00a0the benefit of production.<\/p>\n

    How does TopSolid fit into Industry 4.0?<\/strong><\/h2>\n
